I am coming close to the end of a 30 generation
Sims 4 legacy challenge. For those who don't know, a legacy challenge involves being given a set of goals and traits for each heir in a family tree. The one I've been doing is the Whimsy Expanded Challenge, which I especially like because some of the traits of the next generation's heir depend on things you did or did not accomplish in the previous generation. My generation 30 heir is currently a child, and I wanted to reflect on Every Single Heir and figure out which one I like the most. So here, worst to best, is my ranking!
(the family tree)
Gibson
Gen 4, child of Felicity, parent of Helena
 |
| Gibson Roberson, born Gibson Mai |
Gibson was a victim of unfortunate circumstances, considering his tasks were either things I don't enjoy doing or that flat out didn't work. He was meant to be an interior decorator, and any Sims 4 player can tell you that career is busted. Also, I'm just not good at decorating in general. Gibson also married a landlord, so he clearly has bad taste. He was kind of boring, especially compared to his mom. Sorry kid.
Erika
Gen 1, parent of Brooks
 |
| Erika Walton |
Her being the first generation, I really just don't remember Erika well enough. She was a freelance fabricator, which is a fun career. She had a cool wife I think.
Helena
Gen 5, child of Gibson, parent of Ivy
 |
| Helena Roberson |
Helena was a veterinarian who married another veterinarian and had a bunch of pets and two kids. That's kind of all I remember about her. Again, victim of being an early entry.
Ian
Gen 30, child of Fia
I can't say much about Ian yet because technically he is still a child. He hasn't fully inherited from his mother Fia yet, he will when he becomes a young adult. But I think he's cute so far.
Marlowe
Gen 7, child of Ivy, parent of Owen
 |
| Marlowe Perkins-Hill |
Marlowe was fun in theory. Their goal was to never be able to hold down a job and have three kids with three different partners. Unfortunately that meant they never had a really endearing relationship or storyline I was able to lock into. Very scattered person, which was kind of the point, but that just led to me never getting a good read on them. Also their face looks kind of weird I'm sorryyyyyy.
Brooks
Gen 2, child of Erika, parent of Felicity
 |
| Brooks Mai |
Brooks would definitely be higher if he was more recent. I loved that his whole deal was that he wanted a family but not a partner, so he adopted three kids and then had his daughter Felicity as a science baby. However, the challenge said he finally would find true love in his old age, and I kinda wish I'd just ignored that part and kept him single. No offense to his ultimate wife, but I think it would've been more fun for him to never find love at all because he never needed it. He was cute though, I liked him.
Austin
Gen 15, child of Yasmin, parent of Blair
 |
| Austin Guidry |
Another where there just wasn't much to him. He was a marine biologist and had his daughter Blair with an island spirit, which was all fun, but especially compared to his mother he was just a step down. I liked that I managed to find him a husband whose last name was Fish.
Wilhelmina
Gen 26, child of Turner, parent of Danika
 |
| Wilhelmina Mullins |
To be honest, Willie would be much higher if her challenge didn't take so loooooong. She was born a vampire because of an ancient curse her father Turner uncovered in the ruins of Selvadorada, and I ended up having her fall in love with a human who she refused to turn because she didn't want him to share her curse. That human, Raj, ended up being the father of her seventh child, Danika, and when Danika ultimately confronted Willie with a cure for vampirism, long after Raj had died, she took it to rejoin her love in the afterlife. All cute stuff. But like I said, Danika was her SEVENTH child. That was part of the challenge, and it was just so boring playing long enough for her to have six other kids before Danika. I do love her, but the length really soured me on her.
Uma
Gen 11, child of Stella, parent of Victoire
 |
| Uma Perrin, born Uma Muse |
Uma was fun because she did e-Sports and I think that's just a very silly career to have in the Sims. Her husband was cute, and I liked her relationships with her mom and daughter. We're out of boring territory and into "they were good!"
Wren
Gen 13, child of Victoire, parent of Yasmin
 |
| Wren Stovall |
Oh look, it's Uma's granddaughter. I liked that Wren grew up not knowing her other mother was a witch, that was a good touch, but all the spellcaster goals were really easily completed and I kind of ran out of stuff to do with her. I had her get a career as a matchmaker, and I imagine her as kind of a love witch. Cutie.
Felicity
Gen 3, child of Brooks, parent of Gibson
 |
| Felicity Mai |
I read the description of Felicity's challenge and thought "oh she's just Mama Mia!" That was the gimmick, that she was a party-girl bartender in the city who would sleep with three people in one night and not know who her son Gibson's father was. Silly challenge that was a lot of fun. I keep saying fun.
Turner
Gen 25, child of Shiloh, parent of Wilhelmina
 |
| Turner Mullins |
Turner! I like him! He was an archeologist that lived in a trailer with his wife Abigail, who he met in Selvadorada. I've always enjoyed the
Jungle Adventures gameplay, so I was inclined to like him by default. Also, his dumb ass got his daughter vampire cursed. It wasn't on purpose.
Ivy
Gen 6, child of Helena, parent of Marlowe
 |
| Ivy Perkins-Hill, born Ivy Jiang |
Ivy's challenge was really cute. The idea was that she would have a childhood sweetheart that would move away in their mid-teen years, and they would reunite when they met at university. Ivy was a sweet little romantic and I was a big fan. Especially since she got to live in Tartosa, which is one of the prettiest worlds in
Sims 4 to me.
Lucas
Gen 21, child of Iris, parent of Nova
 |
| Lucas Landry |
Lucas is notable for multiple reasons. One, he was an astronaut who got mpreg. Two, his nonbinary partner Ezra was extremely supportive and I liked their relationship. Three, the result of his mpreg was my number one on this list. Lucas was a good egg.
Blair
Gen 16, child of Austin, parent of Emory
 |
| Blair Guidry-Lim, born Blair Guidry |
Blair was the daughter of Austin and an island goddess, so I named her Blair in honor of the goddess character my friend Nicole wrote. Her gimmick was to travel to every world in the game and take a nice picture, and that was a nice, steady goal that kept me engaged for her entire lifetime. Also I just think she was a major cutie.
Danika
Gen 27, child of Wilhelmina, parent of Ethan
 |
| Danika Singh |
It was sort of a relief to play as Danika after so long as Wilhelmina. I liked the story I built with her, being the only one of her vampire siblings with a human parent and therefore being the one who wanted to find a cure. She was sweet with her wife Kala. Not a ton with her otherwise.
Fia
Gen 29, child of Ethan, parent of Ian
 |
| Fia Nyhus, born Fia Burke-Reyes |
Technically my "current" heir, her son is already born but he isn't old enough to inherit yet. She's a fun party girl and I think she's one of the physically cutest of the generations. Easy breezy beautiful Fia girl.
Shiloh
Gen 24, child of Otto, parent of Turner
 |
| Shiloh Mullins |
Shiloh was soooo cutes. Especially her relationship with her grandma Nova, who I'll be getting to. She's the one who founded the Mullins Museum of Art and I'm very proud of the work I've done on that lot, it displays both Nova's paintings and Turner's collection of artifacts. She's the baby in the picture at the top. I also loved her wife Isabella, who I gave the Grim Reaper career since
Life & Death had just come out.
Owen
Gen 8, child of Marlowe, parent of Robin
 |
| Owen Watts |
Alright, now we're starting to get into the Sims who are
really dear to me. After Marlowe was kind of boring, Owen was a breath of fresh air. Literally, since his whole generation was about being an outdoorsman. He met his wife Annie in Granite Falls and she's maybe the prettiest game-generated Sim I've ever seen. Owen had great vibes.
Emory
Gen 17, child of Blair, parent of Freya
 |
| Emory Lim |
Okay, I love Emory, but she was a hot mess. Spent all day climbing mountains instead of raising the child she had by accident, and ended up dying in a fire while Freya was still a teenager. I love playing Sims with stronger personalities and so Emory's devil-may-care attitude was super fun. Rest in peace dumbass.
Victoire
Gen 12, child of Uma, parent of Wren
 |
| Victoire Perrin |
VICTOIRE!!!! Cutie patootie. Victoire was elevated by her spellcaster wife Alanna who I also adored. I managed to give her home really cozy vibes. She's iconic to me.
Iris
Gen 20, child of Gavin/Gabriel, parent of Lucas
 |
| Iris Landry, born Iris McNamara |
Don't be confused by how grumpy she looks in this picture, Iris was suuuuch a sweetie. She was elevated by the circumstances of her birth (which I'll get into when I get to her dad) but I also loved using all the
Home Chef Hustle game mechanics with her. Cozy city chef. Love her.
Ethan
Gen 28, child of Danika, parent of Fia
 |
| Ethan Burke |
I like the Strangerville gameplay more than most, so Ethan was a blast to play. Just a really solid, good guy. I just noticed how weird his ears look though.
Freya
Gen 18, child of Emory, parent of Gavin/Gabriel
 |
| Freya Lake, born Freya Lim |
Okay, when I say "favorite" I don't mean "good person." Freya girlie you were such a disaster. She was a cop. She was a bad mother. She was a toxic wife. She was sooo fun, and I'm glad this challenge had at least one generation where you played as just kind of a bad person.
Robin
Gen 9, child of Owen, parent of Stella
 |
| Robin Muse |
Iconic werewolf botanist. What else do you want me to say? I like the werewolf gameplay, and Moonwood Mill is such a pretty world that it elevates anyone I'm playing as who lives there. I had never played as an Emissary of the Collective werewolf, so that was funky. Good mom. She has it all.
Otto
Gen 23, child of Nova, parent of Shiloh
 |
| Otto Mullins |
Otto my friend Otto. It helped that their generation is when I was really starting to get into Pose Player, so I have a lot of good pictures of them. Also, I started playing them right around when
Businesses and Hobbies came out, so the gameplay elements like small businesses really helped expand their story. Any kid of Nova's is gonna be an icon.
 |
| Otto and their husband Daniel |
Yasmin
Gen 14, child of Wren, parent of Austin
 |
| Yasmin Guidry, born Yasmin García |
You wanna talk iconic? Yas is ICONIC. She was in a polyamorous relationship with Cassandra Goth and Guidry the ghost. She spent all day knitting and doing paranormal investigations. She was so freaking cool.
Stella
Gen 10, child of Robin, parent of Uma
 |
| Stella Muse |
When my orientations and sexualities mod told me that Stella was a trans girl, I knew she would be top tier. I had so much fun with her fabulous Hollywood (Del Sol Valley) life and I felt so bad when I had to make her wife cheat on her. Your loss, Liza. You fumbled the coolest girl in the world.
Gavin/Gabriel
Gen 19, child of Freya, parent of Iris
 |
| Gabriel McNamara, born Gavin Lake |
Based on his challenge alone, I knew this was gonna be good. Freya's son, he ran away from home as a teen and ended up being recruited into a secret agency, was assigned a handsome guy named Dylan as a partner and had to fake-marry him as a cover, fell in love with Dylan for real, they had Iris and wanted to start a life together before Dylan was killed in action, Gavin changes his name to Gabriel and takes baby Iris out to live a quiet life on a farm. Props to the challenge writer on this one, most of what I love about Gavin came directly from their writing.
Nova
Gen 22, child of Lucas, parent of Otto
 |
| Nova Mullins |
Here she is. The queen. The moment. The star of the show. Style icon. Product of mpreg. Left at the altar when her dirtbag boyfriend found out she was an alien. Single mother and loving grandmother. I adore Nova. No one's doing it like this girl. Just go and read the summary that the Whimsy Expanded challenge gave (I put it on the family tree when you click on her) and try not to get emotional. I'm so proud of her. I'm gonna put some pictures of her to end this because I love her so much.

| insecure teenage selfie, when she was too scared to remove her human disguise |
 |
| there he is that's the dirtbag! |
