For those who don’t know, I have had surgery on two levels of my lumbar spine. Both my L1-L2 and my L5-S1 discs are fused, and unfortunately those procedures haven’t helped much with pain. I also have aches in my upper back and shoulders. So the chronic pain is bad, but the worst days are my laundry days.
Let me break it down: I bend and lift. to get my clothes out of the hamper and put them into the laundry machine. I bend and lift to move them to the dryer. I bend and lift to hang my clothes back in the closet. All of that is really, really hard on my back. So I basically need to reserve one day out of the week as Laundry Day and only Laundry Day. It knocks me OUT. Can’t do anything else the rest of the day. It always feels good to get it over with, though. And then a week passes and there’s laundry again. There’s not a single chore I hate more than laundry. But I did my laundry today and I’m freeeeeeeee!

I think semi-frequently about the magnitude of importance our everyday tech items have, like obviously the washing machine was insanely revolutionary, but also - what's the next step that can help people to automate things even more?
ReplyDeleteIt's such a weird feeling when some sort of disabling thing has happened to you and you just contend with the fact that like, a thing that is easy for others is so tough. Very sort of freaky feeling.
I also ponder the differences between top and front loading washing machines. Because like, man, getting all your stuff out of a big ass top loader is so much harder! With a front loader, you can just tumble all that stuff right out into the hamper. Gravity even helps with this! With a top loader everything has to be EXTRACTED in such a different way. Plus, if the washing machine is big I might have to get on tippy toes. Surely I should never be on my tippy toes...
Anyway, sorry about your stinky laundry. Hope that stuff smells good tho
One thing that's super super helped me is I got a hamper that has two sections, one for lights and ones for darks. So when I'm doing my laundry I don't have to keep bending down to pick up an item and then figure out which machine it goes in, I can just grab everything in one side and put it in one machine, and then the same for the other. Luckily I do have a front loaded washing machine!!!
