People underestimate the importance of a really, really good footstep sound effect in video games, especially ones where you walk around a lot. When I replayed Return of the Obra Dinn a few months ago, I was enamored with the sound my shoes made against the creaky planks of the old trading ship. played Outer Wilds for the first time last year, and all the footstep sounds made me so happy. It might be footsteps on wood I love especially. If I’m gonna be hearing a sound near-constantly, you better make sure you find the best one possible. Footsteps on stone, footsteps on dirt, footsteps on snow. I love ‘em.
